***Portaportese Flea Market--Every Sunday this classic market has everything imaginable: used clothes, books, antiques, art, and tons more. The biggest and most well-known flea market in Rome. If you are a shopper, don't miss this. Free admission, watch your wallet (pickpockets).

***Miracle Players at the Roman Forum--Don't miss this year's production of Caesar...More than Just a Salad--a hysterical take on the life and death of the most famous emperor of ancient Rome. The production is in English, and the material is appropriate for the whole family. FREE ENTRANCE.

***The Cinema Isle--Rome's film festival is ongoing this week on Tiberina Island, featuring everything from independent films to Hollywood blockbusters, retrospectives, music, dance, fashion shows, multimedia artists, food and wine tastings, and special appearances from all sorts of industry people.
WHEN: 7 June - 3 September 2006. 6pm-3am
WHERE: Tiberina Island--reach the island on foot via the following three bridges: ponte Fabricio, ponte Cestio and ponte Garibaldi. Alternatively, from Piazza San Bartolomeo all'Isola. The best choices for public transport are the 160 and 780 buses.


***Roma Incontra il Mondo (Rome Meets The World)--Music festival--Rome's annual World Music Festival goes on until August 7. From Jamaica to Poland, India to Nigeria, and all points in between, come and sample various artists from all over the grid, including: Stuart Copeland (of Police fame), the Wailers, Jamaica's Capleton, The Flaming Lips, Buju Banton, and many, many more! The venue is in one of Rome's largest parks and a former hunting lodge. It is a beautiful green area to catch a show, and also an economic option with most daily tix at 6-8 Euros.
WHERE: Villa Ada, On the NE side of Rome, close to the Via Olimpica area. Entrance is from Via Di Ponte Salario. Take bus 86, 92 or 310 from Termini train station.

***Fiesta! Latin American Music Festival--Ongoing--Rome's annual soiree into Latin American music is underway. Featuring: Los Van Van, Ivete Sangalo and Tito Nieves among many others.

***Summer Opera Season at Caracalla has begun!--Annually, Rome's opera house changes venues to the Baths of Caracalla for summer performances with the beautiful ruins as a backdrop. Performances include: La Vestale (The Vestal Virgin), Madame Butterfly, Aida and Turandot. Tickets may be purchased at the Teatro dell'Opera Sundays from 9-1:30pm and Tues-Sat from 9am-5pm or 1 hour before the performance directly at Caracalla.
